Poster Design for LLUMC Children's Hospital Event

I won’t typically use this blog for highlighting Adam Lee Design work, but sometimes I think it can be informative to let you all in on our process. For this reason, I’ll occasionally share recent or ongoing projects with you.

A couple weeks ago the Loma Linda University Medical Center Children’s Hospital approached us to produce materials for an upcoming event. The event was to serve as a thank you to the people who had donated to the Children’s Hospital. And it would feature both Olympic athletes and Para-Olympic athletes. We were to design posters for the event creatively showcasing the athletes along with matching materials for other uses throughout the evening including autograph sheets and centerpiece decorations.

The Children’s Hospital was looking for a patriotic theme that would tie in with the U.S. Olympic champions who were the highlight of the event. After research, brainstorming, and lots of initial sketches, we opted for a design that drew inspiration from the iconic use of images found in vintage posters. By separating the athletes from the backgrounds of their photos, we were able to portray them in a way that presented them as the icons they are.

The background graphics are also reminiscent of vintage poster art in their use of colors, shapes, and texture. Combining these elements with the bold images of the athletes created a design that felt patriotic and helped set the mood for the evening.

The posters ended up being a big hit that night. Each athlete signed their poster, and the posters will now be auctioned off to raise even more money for the Children’s Hospital.

Below are a couple samples of the posters from the event.
